Dave: the legendary singer star of the small screen
Dave is the most French of Dutch singers! Born Wouter Otto Levenbach, he was very young passionate about music. When he was only 20 years old, he left for London to record an album and already used the pseudonym Dave, much more international than his real first name.
The following year, this boating fan left his native Amsterdam and reached Marseille by canals on a flat boat! It is the beginning of a great love story between the singer and his adopted country.
In 1974, Dave released his first hit, Vanina, which sold over a million copies. The following year, he released his second timeless hit, Du cote de chez Swann. However, the fashion for romantic songs faded, and Dave found himself old-fashioned.
He returned to singing in 1993 with an eponymous album, and found success with the release of a compilation. He then comes out somewhat disguised in an advertisement for Edam, a cheese from his native country: ”It seems that Dave doesn’t like ladies ”/“ Dave likes edam”. The singer is also in a relationship since 1971 with his lyricist Patrick Loiseau. Despite the fact that at the time this subject was still very taboo, its popularity was far too great for it to be a problem.

Renaud: his old demons
Renaud and Dave have known each other for a long time, both being icons of French song for decades. However, their friendship is very recent. The two great men of French song indeed collaborated on Dave’s last album, Remember to love.
Renaud is one of the greatest French singers. These hits such as Mistral Gagnant, or Morgan de toi, are still popular today. Even in his early days, Renaud had a sulphurous reputation. Antimilitarist, environmentalist, he undermines good thinking. However, the singer has a very personal demon that causes him great harm, alcohol.
This earned him a very long crossing of the desert. In 2010, he discussed this with our colleagues from Serge magazine:
“I drink because I am not good in my skin, in my rind. I have psychoses, anxieties, a bad life, a nostalgia for my childhood. And it gets worse with all these friends dying around me. It depresses me, I’m all alone in my bistro. So rather than ruminating on my thoughts, well I drink a little glass and it gets a little better (…) I constantly have the feeling of being persecuted, followed, listened to, spied on my email as on my cell phone by people who want to hurt me. (…) I’m afraid of dying too, I don’t know where it comes from, it’s a disease”
This is not very reassuring …
Dave worried about his friend Renaud
Renaud has repeatedly managed to get out of his alcohol addiction. He himself had also gone to a withdrawal treatment just a few years ago, decided to end the drink once and for all. He has since released an album for children, as well as his controversial song “Corona Song”.
His friend Dave visits him often, and he told our colleagues from Nice-Matin that the rebellious singer is doing much better. However, aware of Renaud’s complicated past, Dave can only be worried: “Problem is, it doesn’t last because of the demons in his head”. Moreover, Renaud would call himself “melancholy”, which is not really a good sign… In any case, The Objeko team wishes the best for Renaud, and hopes that his great friend Dave will take good care of him !
